Centerbased Early Start Specialist/ Teacher Educator

Location: City of Downey

Our curriculum is designed using Universal Design for Learning principles, which ensures that all students have access to the same learning opportunities and can demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways.

General Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor and Director, the Early Intervention  Teacher is responsible for classroom care, development, intervention, and supervision  of children ages birth to 36 months with special needs. The teacher is responsible for  the supervision of assistant teachers assigned to the classroom and delivery of  teleservices. 

Essential Job Functions:

  •  Partner and collaborate with assistant teachers and volunteers. 
  • Maintain an active system of parent-teacher relationships.
  • Work cooperatively with staff to ensure quality services for children and families
  • Observe all rules and policies as stated in the employee handbook.
  • Effectively train assistant teachers and volunteers.
  • Attend and participate in direct and remote staff meetings, and related activities;  attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge. 
  •  Maintain the confidentiality of parents, children, and staff. 

Instruction and Programming

  • Implantation of IFSPs into children daily classroom and teleservice experiences  using Zoom or other electronic platforms (when applicable).
  • Plan and implement age appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate the  cognitive, social emotional and cultural needs of children in the program. 
  • Responsible for securing health hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of  children at all times.
  • Monitoring the child’s progress and current development utilizing  developmentally appropriate assessment tools.
  •  Participate in the observation and evaluation of each child’s progress and  provide a written report (developmental profile) within 30 days after enrollment  and at least every 12 weeks for each child thereafter.
  • Preparation of lesson plans based on IFSP goals, HELP assessment, and  classroom/teleservice observations.
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
